Accelerating New Hire Performance Through Strategic Onboarding

New Hire Transformation:

Business Challenge: New hires were not consistently performing at a level comparable to tenured Care Advocates, creating opportunities to improve production readiness, quality, and overall performance. The organization needed a more strategic onboarding approach that would accelerate proficiency while building confidence and consistency.

Strategic Solution: Conducted a comprehensive analysis of the onboarding experience to identify opportunities for improvement. Partnered with operational leaders, Quality, and subject matter experts to redesign key components of the learning journey, incorporating blended learning strategies, hands-on practice, reinforcement, and performance support to better prepare new hires for production.

My Contribution: Working collaboratively with business leaders and subject matter experts, I led the learning strategy and development efforts to create a more effective onboarding experience that supported improved performance and operational readiness.

  • Analyzed onboarding performance data to identify key areas for improvement.
  • Partnered with cross-functional stakeholders to align learning with business needs.
  • Redesigned curriculum and learning experiences using adult learning principles.
  • Developed facilitator resources, learner activities, assessments, and performance support tools.
  • Established a continuous improvement process using learner feedback and operational performance data.

A quick look at the curriculum overview. A well-designed curriculum provides a clear roadmap from learning objectives and content to eLearning modules, instructor-led sessions, and hands-on activities. This intentional structure is essential for creating scalable training programs and ensuring consistent learning experiences over time.

Key Deliverables: To support the redesigned onboarding strategy, I developed a comprehensive suite of learning resources that reinforced knowledge, encouraged application, and provided ongoing performance support throughout the employee journey.

  • Redesigned onboarding curriculum
  • Facilitator and learner guides
  • Scenario-based learning activities
  • Knowledge checks and assessments
  • LiteBytes microlearning series
  • Quality Week reinforcement program
  • Job aids and performance support resources

Business Value: By strategically enhancing the onboarding experience, this initiative reduced the performance gap between new hires and tenured employees from 25% to 10%. The redesigned program established a foundation for continuous improvement, supported operational quality goals, and increased new hire confidence by 30% based on post-training survey results. By strengthening learner readiness and confidence, the program helped develop more capable Care Advocates who were better prepared for success in production.

Key Takeaways: One of the greatest lessons from this project was that meaningful performance improvement comes from continually listening, evaluating, and adapting. By partnering closely with business leaders and using data to inform decisions, we created an onboarding experience that evolved with the needs of both learners and the organization.
