Clarify the Business Need
Preparing for a Meaningful Discovery Conversation:
Every engagement begins with a Learning Request Form designed to make our discovery conversation more productive and valuable for everyone involved.
Rather than spending the first half of the meeting gathering basic information, the request form captures key details in advance, allowing me to prepare thoughtful questions, identify potential learning approaches, and tailor the conversation to the organization’s specific needs.
The Form helps stakeholders begin thinking through questions such as:
- What challenge or opportunity are we trying to address?
- What business outcomes are we hoping to achieve?
- Who is impacted?
- Are there subject matter experts or key stakeholders who should be involved?
- Are there any initial thoughts on the preferred learning format or delivery approach?
While these responses are not intended to define the solution, they provide valuable context that allows our time together to focus on discovery, collaboration, and problem-solving rather than basic information gathering.
By entering the meeting with a foundational understanding of the request, we can spend more time exploring the underlying need, discussing potential solutions, and determining the most effective path forward together.
Team development:
Leading ongoing development for my teams provides practical tools and techniques for preparing for stakeholder meetings, asking meaningful questions, identifying root causes, and connecting learning solutions to measurable business outcomes. It also reinforces the importance of approaching every engagement as a strategic partner.
